As reported in the Chicago Suburban News, the Berwyn Arts Council held a meeting on Saturday to discuss a Save-the-Spindle campaign. John Fey of the Arts Council acknowledges that keeping the sculpture in its current location is off the table, but the hope is that it can be reinstalled in another location -- ideally within Berwyn.

“If Walgreens didn’t want to be there, we wouldn’t be talking about rehabilitating the Spindle; we’d just be talking about how much poop there is on it. There wouldn’t be any impetus to change it, but here’s an opportunity because of the need to move it,” Fey said.

“At the end of this process, if it all goes the way we want it to go, we’ll end up with a beautiful piece of artwork that’s been restored, as opposed to the much maligned deteriorating piece that it is today.”

Per my own "Berwyn gap analysis," we need a decent Thai or Indian restaurant considerably more than we need a drive-thru window at that particular Walgreens.
